For those of you who are interested in looking and feeling good and using non-toxic, natural products while you’re doing it, I am compiling a list here of products and companies with whom I have personal experience. My only goal here is to provide other like-minded people with good information and give these companies some publicity and props for trying to do the right thing.
However, while I mention just a few products and websites here, in the interest of not reinventing the wheel, fellow breast cancer club member Caryn Sullivan has a fantastic website called Pretty Wellness with really easy to read tips, recipes, and guidance to live a healthier, less toxic life-style. She has a much more extensive list of resources in this genre, and is both Pretty and Well :)…so check her out! You can also look up your own products and get educated on toxins by clicking on the EWG website.
One cosmetic company that I am thrilled to write about is Beauty Counter. This company has a mission to get safe products into the hands of everyone who wants them. The federal government has not passed a law to regulate the ingredients in personal care products since 1938! Beauty Counter’s founder, Gregg Renfrew, is trying to do something about that. They also honored me recently as a woman of inspiration and sent me a lovely box of products which I have been thoroughly enjoying. I especially like the Lustro Face Oil. My skin is so soft after one use. I can recommend a wonderful sales representative for these products, Ali Mitchell.
CureDiva offers stylish, natural and organic products to help women live with the physical changes associated with breast cancer.
Wellness Mama has all kinds of great suggestions, recipes and natural, home-made remedies and products. This is where my friend Andrea got the idea for the natural deodorant she lovingly makes and provides for me – and it really does work! And for those who do not wish to make their own, she suggests http://primalpitpaste.com/deodorant. As a mom of two active boys entering the smelly years, she says this is great for kids too.
Of course I am only too pleased to also give a shout out and thank you to the team of magicians who are responsible for the smoke and mirrors you see in my pictures on this website and any day that I am not scaring young children with my appearance. I think this is what Hillary Clinton was really talking about when she said “It takes a village…”
The fabulous Nikki Medina of Sun Kissed Glow, airbrushed my make-up for the photos. She also offers organic airbrush tanning, professional make-up application, eyelash extensions, teeth whitening, and custom blend foundation in your home or at her Beauty Bar. Her products are all natural, hypoallergenic and not animal tested. She recently offered her amazing services at the Miss America pageant 2015 and has celebrity clients such as pop-star Christina Aguilera.
Photography by Lisa Garcia is the amazingly talented photographer who volunteered her time and talents to come to my pre-op mastectomy DJ dance party and capture some great images. She also took the photos of me featured on my Bio and About Me page.
Lachers Reese of Lachers Hair by Demand is the big-hearted, soulful, lovely woman who blew-out my hair for those photos. She is the blow-out pro to the stars and has traveled all over to work on sets and shoots in the fashion and entertainment industries.
The wonderful women at H Salon in Fairfield, CT maintain my locks on the regular. Jackie and Marissa are the incredible and talented owners of this warm and welcoming salon. Jackie is responsible for my cuts and highlights, but the entire staff are as talented as they are kind (and they are conveniently located adjacent to a tequila bar).
I will continue to update with new products and companies …
